Display algorithms for high dynamic range video

Abstract
High dynamic range (HDR) imaging has seen an immense development the last two decades and is today an important aspect in a wide range of applications in computer graphics and image processing. With the use of tone-mapping the material can be adapted for viewing on a display device that is limited in terms of dynamic range and color gamut. However, HDR video introduces a set of additional challenges as compared to static images. In this talk, a recent method for display of HDR video will be described. It makes use of a set of novel algorithms that enables high quality tone-mapping in real-time, taking into account the noise characteristics of the input. Furthermore, I will briefly describe our open source HDR video codec, which is constructed from an objective quality evaluation. Finally, I will say a few words about a current research project that is aimed at empirically deriving an optimal display algorithm from experimental data.
