Soil Mechanics at the Particle Scale - Discrete Element Modelling and Micro Computed Tomography
- đ¤ Speaker: Catherine O'Sullivan & Joana Fonseca Civil & Environmental Engineering, Imperial College, London
- đ Date & Time: Thursday 13 May 2010, 11:30 - 12:30
- đ Venue: Open Plan Area, BP Institute, Madingley Rise CB3 0EZ
Abstract
This talk will discuss the benefits of modelling and analysing soil at the scale of individual particles from the perspective of geotechnical engineering. The presentation will be given in two parts: Catherine O’Sullivan will give an introduction to discrete element modelling, a technique for simulating systems of interacting particles, then Joana Fonseca will introduce microcomputed tomography as a tool to characterise soil at the particle scale.
Series This talk is part of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Flows (IEEF) series.
